Did you know that an average mattress lasts between 7 to 10 years? As you’ll be sleeping on the same bed for many years, you should ensure that your mattress stays clean and helps you get a good night’s sleep.
With daily use, your mattress may become a breeding ground for different types of bacteria. Mould growth can also be a problem if your bedroom is humid.
One solution is to purchase a mattress protector – especially in a material like bamboo, that’s antibacterial and hypoallergenic. This can protect your mattress and help you get a night of healthier and better sleep.
Here are five benefits of bamboo mattress protectors from summer to winter and every month in-between.
Mattresses can be hard on the wallet, but a mattress protector can help you get more bang for your buck. By using a high-quality mattress protector, you’ll be able to protect your mattress from spills and stains. When you spill anything on your mattress protector, you can easily remove it and toss it in a washing machine. A pro tip: Bamboo is considered eco-friendly, so you may want to consider washing your mattress protector in a gentle wash free of harsh chemicals. This will extend the lifespan of your mattress, saving you money (and soothing your skin) in the long run.
Keeping your bedding clean isn’t just enough. Your mattress hygiene is equally important. For those suffering from allergies, you may particularly benefit from a bamboo mattress protector. Your mattress can become a host to different allergens, triggering asthma attacks and skin infections. Bamboo mattress protectors are naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, preventing the buildup of nasty things like fungi and bacteria. A high-quality mattress protector can keep your bed clean and protect you from allergy flare-ups, coughing fits, and sneezing attacks.
Let’s face it. Human bodies can be a little gross. We sweat and shed dead skin cells at night. Our bodies also produce oil through our skin while we’re sleeping, which can soak through our sheets into the mattress. This can attract bacteria and encourage mould growth. With these allergens lurking in your mattress, your health could be at risk. A mattress protector acts as a shield, preventing you from catching bacterial infections, and keeping you safe while you’re fast asleep.
Without a mattress protector, you never know what’s under your skin. Dust mites and bed bugs can lurk inside an unprotected mattress. A fully encased mattress protector is a must-have to protect yourself and your mattress against these tiny insects. It will offer complete protection from these crawly creatures by putting an instant stop to their food supply.
Apart from keeping your mattress clean and preventing the growth of mould and bacteria, a mattress protector is comfortable and can improve the quality of your sleep. Additionally, it's ideal for year-round use, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. With a properly fitted mattress protector, you should sleep better, stay healthier, and get a quality night’s sleep.
Depending on the mattress you use, some of its internal components might not be fully recyclable. As a result, it might end up in a landfill. Using a mattress protector might extend your mattress’s life. This can significantly reduce the impact on the environment, especially if you’re using an eco-friendly mattress protector in a material like bamboo.
If you’re looking for a mattress protector, you can count on Giselle Bedding. Our water-resistant bamboo fabric mattress protectors will repel stains and moisture and allow proper airflow, all while preventing dust mites and bacteria growth. Shop the Giselle Bedding range today.
]]>What you sleep on can greatly impact your health and wellbeing. Out of all the things that make up a bed, it’s the right mattress that contributes the most to a good night’s sleep. The more comfortable and supportive it is, the better postural alignment and quality of sleep. Investing in a good mattress could help you sleep better and wake up feeling energised and refreshed.
If you’re hunting for a new mattress, the question is where to start. With so many types of mattresses on the market, finding a mattress that ticks all the right boxes can feel overwhelming. But, fear not! We’ve made it easier for you at Giselle Bedding.
In Giselle Bedding’s handy mattress buying guide, you'll understand what to consider when shopping for a mattress. Make sure you read to the end to find your perfect mattress match.
Investing in an ideal size mattress is crucial for getting good quality sleep. Having adequate space will make you feel comfortable and help you settle into a deep, peaceful sleep. Sometimes, your bed size needs change over time. So it’s important you don’t rush into picking your usual size mattress.
The following are the Giselle Bedding experts’ recommendations for buying the right size mattress for your bedroom.
If you’ve got a sleep partner, ensure there’s enough space on the bed to accommodate both of you.
Buy the largest size bed and mattress your bedroom can accommodate. This will offer additional space to move around while you are fast asleep.
Consider the size and height of your sleeping partner and yourself. The length of the mattress should exceed a further 10 to 15cm than the tallest person sleeping on it.
If you have kids who like to hop in bed with you, get a big bed to accommodate them too! You’ll need the extra room for early morning cuddles.
Don’t forget to consider your sleeping position. Different mattress fillings provide different styles of support, so do your research before buying and make sure you have the right support.
There are several different mattress types available on the market. To find the one that offers what you’re looking for, you should understand what's making them different from each other. Let’s explore some of the most common mattress types so that you can make an informed purchase decision.
Do you enjoy the feeling of sinking into your bed and being cradled to sleep? A memory foam mattress may be just what you’re looking for. It provides good support and excellent pressure relief by contouring your body and taking weight off pressure points. Memory foam mattresses are ideal for side sleepers or those who have arthritis or joint pain. It effectively cushions the joints, promotes spine alignment, and relieves pressure on the heavier parts of your body. A memory foam mattress also helps to limit motion isolation, reducing partner disturbance when sleeping. Depending on the design and construction, memory foam mattresses can be inexpensive to high-end. Choose what best suits your needs.

Latex is a natural material that comes from nature. It’s the milky white sap collected from the bark of a mature rubber tree. Latex material comes in different types, but the natural latex overpowers other types of latex mattresses. The composition of natural latex consists of 40 per cent rubber material and 55 per cent water. The mattresses, toppers, and pillows made from natural latex material are bouncy, comfortable, supportive, and environmentally friendly. They will also last longer and have enhanced breathability. Latex mattresses are ideal for a bad back. The high percentages of natural latex make these mattresses firm yet springy, giving your back much-needed support.

Pocket springs are made by tempering hot metal into coil springs. They are individually wrapped in a quality fabric and stitched in the middle layer of the mattress that's below the comfort layer of foam but above the foundational layer. The pocket spring mattresses are an upgraded version of the traditional innerspring mattress. However, unlike their old counterparts, pocket spring mattresses offer contoured support and pressure point relief as the springs that make up this mattress work independently. The spring count in a mattress can vary. The higher number of premium quality coil springs equals better support and motion control. The pocket spring mattress is ideal for stomach sleepers. It keeps your spine aligned, helps distribute body weight evenly, and soothes pressure points, keeping you comfortable while sleeping.

The disadvantages of a pocket spring mattress include:
The Bonnell spring mattress is the most basic and traditional spring-based mattress. But don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s outdated. Unlike a pocket spring mattress, a Bonnell spring mattress uses hourglass-shaped springs that are broader at the top and bottom than in the middle. They are also known as open coil spring mattresses. The coils in a Bonnell spring mattress are interconnected with a mesh of metal, which prevents them from moving independently. Since the springs are made from solid steel, they are quite durable and will last for many years. They also provide firm support that conforms to your body as you sleep on it and offer the most comfortable and supportive sleeping surface that's perfect for those who require ample space for easy turns and rolls. If you’re a back sleeper, the Bonnell spring mattress may help you get a good night’s sleep.

A relatively new trend in mattress innovation, hybrid mattresses are a combination of layers of foam and spring coils. These mattresses usually constitute four layers.
Support layer: The support layer is made from individually wrapped pocket coils. These coils can move independently, which reduces motion isolation. This layer is usually seven to eight inches thick, which provides good structural support, firmness, and padding to the mattress.
Transition layer: The transition layer acts as a cushion between the support and comfort layer. Usually, this layer uses the same foam material as the comfort layer but with a higher density.
Comfort layer: The comfort layer is the closest to the sleeper. A good hybrid mattress will have a comfort layer at least two inches thick for ultimate support and comfort. This layer is usually made by combining memory foam, latex, or polyfoam and gel beads for cushioned support and heat regulation. Depending on the thickness and composition of this layer, the feeling of the mattress can vary.
Pillow top or Euro top: Many hybrid mattresses may include a fluffier topmost layer for enhanced comfort, soft cushioning, and contouring. As you sleep on your mattress, it may feel soft yet supportive.
A high-quality mattress construction ensures your hybrid mattress will last longer. Whether you are a front, back or side sleeper, a hybrid mattress will provide exceptional comfort, especially for hot and heavier-weight sleepers.

The firmness of a mattress refers to how you feel when you sleep on it. Do you sink in or feel like resting on top of a mattress? Does the mattress contour your body’s shape? Do you feel supported when sleeping? These are just a few questions that can help you understand if a mattress is soft, medium firm, or firm. Comfort is subjective, so understanding mattress firmness and their differences will enable you to narrow down and find your perfect match.
Softer mattresses fall under the 3-4 firmness scale. Their firmness is determined by the materials used in their construction. A softer mattress typically utilises soft, cushioning layers of materials like thick memory foam for supreme comfort. When you sleep on a soft mattress, you’re most likely to feel ‘in it’ rather than ‘on it’. Soft beds are ideal for side sleepers as they allow them to sink in and reduce pressure on the shoulders and hips. But this sinkage can cause trouble switching positions due to poor support. Softer mattresses are not as suitable for heavier weighted sleepers, and it can be difficult to get out of for the elderly.
A soft mattress is ideal for:
A medium-feel mattress is a blend of soft and firm mattresses. It falls under the 5-6 firmness scale. This mattress is an equal balance of plushness and firmness that perfectly complements various sleep styles and body types. The medium feel mattresses compress better than a firm mattress but offer more support than a soft mattress. They also provide good pressure relief and enough firmness to keep the spine in a neutral position, ensuring you pass into a deep slumber without experiencing any discomfort. The versatility of a medium mattress makes it a good choice for a wide range of sleepers. At Giselle Bedding, we’ve got a wide collection of medium feel mattresses that are worth checking out.
A medium mattress is ideal for:
Are you looking for a firm and supportive mattress? A firm mattress may be a good option. Unlike soft beds, a firm mattress prevents painful sinkage and provides an even surface for sleeping. This helps reduce the strain on muscles, veins, and arteries, thereby improving blood circulation. A firm mattress also offers adequate support to your lower back and helps improve your posture by keeping your body aligned. This type of mattress is perfect for those troubled with back problems. It prevents lower back pain, promoting a peaceful night’s sleep. When you sleep on a firm mattress, you’re most likely to feel ‘on it’ rather than ‘in it’. Side sleepers, lighter sleepers, and some combination sleepers may find a firm mattress a little uncomfortable.
A firm mattress is ideal for:
While some love soft, plush beds, others prefer the super supportive feel of an extra firm mattress. An extra firm mattress offers a variety of benefits, but it’s not for everyone. This mattress provides a level surface and additional support while you sleep, which helps your body maintain a good posture and prevents your back from curving. However, an extra firm mattress may not be the best option for those suffering from lower back pain and side sleepers. An extra firm mattress also offers increased stability, which means you won’t roll towards the centre or bounce if you move about at night.
An extra firm mattress is ideal for:
Each night people change sleeping positions as many as 10 to 40 times, but every time they return to their favourite sleeping position unconsciously. Your mattress will majorly impact the quality of sleep you get, so finding a mattress that complements your sleeping position is of utmost importance. Keep reading to find a perfect fit when shopping for a new mattress depending on the way you sleep.
Sleeping on your stomach can put a lot of pressure on your pelvis. If your mattress doesn’t provide adequate support, your body may end up in an uncomfortable position and provoke back pain. So it’s best to avoid soft and plush mattresses. Choose a firm mattress as it can provide good spinal support and prevent the hips from sinking into the sleeping surface. You can also try a memory foam mattress for front sleeping. It takes some pressure off your chest and contours your shape.
Side sleeping is the most popular sleeping position. It puts a lot of pressure on your neck, shoulder and hip, which can cause discomfort while sleeping. So it’s best to choose a softer mattress or a medium-feel mattress. These mattresses conform to your body position, keep your spine aligned, and relieve tension around the neck, shoulder, and hip areas. Memory foam or pillow top mattresses are also ideal for side sleepers. They are a perfect blend of cushioned comfort and support.
Are you a back sleeper? A mattress that’s too soft may not offer enough support to keep your shoulder and hip aligned, while a too firm mattress will put a lot of pressure on your shoulder and hip. A medium-firm mattress is your best choice. It evenly distributes your body weight, provides good spinal support, and reduces pressure point discomfort. A supportive mattress should be your priority.
Your body type can also help determine the level of support and mattress firmness you need to sleep comfortably. It’s important to consider how much you weigh when shopping for a new mattress because the amount of pressure applied to the surface of the mattress while sleeping differs depending on the weight. If you’ve been struggling to get comfortable in bed, understanding which mattress your body needs could help you get your dreamy sleep.
Sleepers with smaller frames, or those weighing less than 60kg, are most likely to find a medium-feel mattress more comfortable than a heavier sleeper. A medium-feel mattress will allow lighter sleepers to sink in a bit. This will provide good cushioned support and pressure relief and ensure they sleep comfortably without experiencing any discomfort or pain. Choose a memory foam mattress with a firmness corresponding to the body weight. It will effectively cradle the body and distribute the weight evenly across the mattress. A latex mattress can also be a good choice for sleepers in every weight group.
For people weighing between 60kg and 105kg, a medium-firm mattress could be the best choice. They place a moderate amount of pressure on the surface of a mattress. A medium-firm bed offers the right balance of firmness and plushness, which is perfect for sleepers in this weight group. However, for sleepers who weigh above 105kg, a firm mattress could be an ideal match. Heavier bodies place more pressure on a sleeping surface that can cause greater sinkage. Such sleepers will need a mattress that provides adequate support to their bodies and prevents them from sinking into the mattress top.
Are you having trouble sleeping? With the right mattress, you can combat your sleep problems and get a good night’s sleep. Continue reading to find a solution to some of your sleeping problems.
Human body temperature naturally increases and decreases over the course of a day. Each day your body adjusts your temperature to follow your circadian rhythm. It starts by warming you up in the morning and cooling your body as you prepare for sleep. Sometimes, exercise, diet, and other factors such as hormonal changes may affect your body temperature, which may result in disrupted sleep.
For sleepers who run hotter in bed, sweaty nights may prevent you from getting better sleep. In this case, a mattress designed especially for breathability and temperature control may help. Giselle Bedding’s memory foam mattress infused with innovative cool gel technology may keep you cool and comfortable at night.
Similarly, shivering through the night can also be troublesome and result in disturbed sleep. When you’re too cold, your body tries to raise your temperature through shivering or trapping heat. A mattress that retains heat and creates a warm sleeping surface can make you feel comfortable while sleeping. Giselle Bedding’s traditional memory foam mattress may keep you from shivering or reaching for blankets at night, making it effective for cold sleepers.
According to medical professionals, millions of people wake up with an aching body. A poor quality mattress and unsupported sleeping position could cause body aches. To find some relief from pains and aches, people often go in search of the perfect mattress. But do mattresses really help in reducing body or back pains? A research study published in the National Library of Medicine found that participants using their average 9.5 years old and moderately priced beddings were troubled with body pain. After replacing their old mattresses with new, medium-firm beds, the participants expressed that they experienced better sleep quality and reduced back discomfort. The researchers found continuous improvement for each of the 4-week data gathering periods.
Choosing a good mattress that supports your body weight, prevents deep sinkage, and keeps your head, shoulder, and hip aligned could help reduce body aches and pains. Memory foam and latex mattresses offer adequate support to your body while sleeping and alleviate pressure on the joints. They precisely contour your unique body shape and keep you comfortable through the night. You could also use neck supportive pillows for pain relief.
Have a sleep partner? Motion transfer is a common problem for people sharing beds. And it can be really frustrating. If you’re a light sleeper, you know the struggle of waking up countless times at night due to the your partner’s subtle body movements. But fortunately, it’s preventable simply by finding a mattress that will absorb motion. Giselle Bedding’s Luna Euro top cool gel pocket spring mattress is crafted with excellence to give you a soothing sleep every night. It features an innovative 7-zone EvenZon pocket spring system, which results in zero partner disturbance.
A mattress is an investment in better sleep. Some people swear by expensive mattresses, but does a higher price really mean higher-quality products? That’s debatable. What makes a mattress worth its price are the quality of materials, innovative technology, and its comfort. So the next time you’re purchasing a new mattress, don’t just rely on a salesperson. We recommend that you do your research first. Because it’s you who knows what’s best for you.

]]>Summer is truly gone, and winter is upon us. We’ve already started feeling the winter chill.
The colder temperatures disrupt the sleep cycle, and you might experience tossing and turning at night as we approach the middle of Australian winter. This calls for cosy bedding to keep you warm and toasty on chilly nights. A comfy, warm snuggly quilt will help you get a better night’s sleep without feeling the chill.
Whether your all-season quilt is not keeping you warm enough, or you’re looking for a new quilt to keep you cosy during the colder months, we’ll help you find the right quilt for your needs.
Firstly, material matters when it comes to quilts. There are two general categories: natural fibres and artificial fibres. Natural fibres include wool, cotton, feather and down, and mulberry silk, whereas polyester and faux minx are popular choices for artificial fibre quilts.
So, snuggle up and get stuck into our guide about how to choose the right quilt for winter.
Made from polyester material, faux mink quilts are a great choice for winter, trapping body heat to keep you warm and toasty. Besides the warmth they offer, faux mink quilts can add a touch of elegance to your room. They often come in rich colours offering a luxurious silvery sheen and can be quite decorative.
Giselle Bedding’s faux mink quilts have 300gsm polyester filling and 200gsm polyester cover. Made with baffle box construction to ensure even warmth distribution, they're available in charcoal, teal, and burgundy shades.
Being a natural material, quilts made from cotton are soft, comfortable, and breathable. Cotton is thinner, lighter and breathes more than most other materials. If you enjoy a light and warm quilt, you might consider purchasing a cotton quilt.
Looking for a quilt that’s hypoallergenic? For those battling allergies, a microfibre quilt is an ideal solution. It repels irritants like bed bugs and dust mites and prevents them from infiltrating your bedding. This helps you breathe easy and sleep better. Microfibre quilts are made from polyester and suitable for year-round use. They don’t hold onto sweat or moisture, and offer the same amount of softness and durability.
Tried and tested, our ancestors have been using wool for centuries to keep themselves warm. As a natural fibre, a woollen quilt will regulate heat and keep hot sleepers cool and cold sleepers warm, preventing frequent wakeups. Because wool repels moisture, it prevents the growth of bacteria and dust mites. Furthermore, wool quilts are also renewable and biodegradable. This makes the woollen quilt a safe choice for both you and the environment.
Looking for a fluffy, soft, and light quilt? Then, a duck feather or goose feather could be an ideal option. Quilts made from this material will keep you warm without adding extra weight. They are so soft and plush that you’ll drift away into a peaceful slumber.
Giselle Bedding has several options in duck down and goose down quilts. They feature a baffle construction that prevents the filling from shifting and keeps the warmth locked in.
In addition to quilt material, the weight of the quilt is also an important consideration. Check for Grams per Square Metre, or GSM, which refers to the weight of the quilt filling. The more filling within the square metre, the warmer the quilt.
Wondering which quilt is suitable for winter – faux mink, wool, feather or down, microfibre, or cotton? Well, that all depends on what you’re looking for.
Whether you’re a cold sleeper or hot sleeper, we've got something for you. Giselle Bedding offers a plethora of options in quilts, so you’re sure to find the quilt that suits your needs.

]]>Now that winter is upon us, many of us might be looking for ways to stay warm and cosy at night. Wearing several layers of garments for warmth can be really comfortable. Fortunately, we’ve other alternatives.
You will be surprised to know that the electric blankets take the first seat. They will keep you warm all through the night for a fraction of the cost of your central heating.
Let’s dig a little deeper to learn the multiple benefits it offers.
The following are the benefits of electric blankets.
Your circadian rhythm is your sleep-wake pattern, influenced by diet and activity, light or dark, and temperature. The sudden temperature drop at night can pull you out of deep sleep. Electric blankets keep you cosy and provide consistent heating, which naturally helps you sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed.
Heat is known to help relieve body aches. The electric blankets work just like a heat compress. The heat generated from electric blankets activates receptors in our body and blocks the pain signals sent to the brain. With the pain signals being blocked, your pain quickly vanishes. It also prevents your body from feeling stiff, especially on winter mornings.
Not just for relieving pain, the heat released from the electric blankets alleviates muscle spasms and tightness, provides sinus relief, expands the ability of muscles and other tissues in our body to stretch, and improves blood circulation. The entire body gets the most needed relaxation, which ultimately brightens up your mood keeping you happy and cheerful.
Electric blankets won’t cost you a fortune. They are energy efficient and consume less energy compared to centralised heating. They will use power enough to keep you warm rather than your entire space. It’s a long-term investment, and you will save on the bills too.
Electric blankets come in various materials, such as polyester, faux fur, anti-allergy, diamond-quilted, and fleece. However, the most used fabrics are polyester and fleece.
Let’s learn about the unique benefits each of these materials offer.

A great night’s sleep is crucial for your health. It helps you recover from the hustle and bustle of a busy day and prepare you for the next day by relaxing your mind and body and dealing with your stress effectively. And for a good night’s sleep, what you sleep on greatly matters. If you are on a hunt for the best options out there, check out natural Latex mattresses and toppers. They are one of the popular choices and are sure to make a difference.
Latex is a natural material that comes from nature. It is the milky white sap collected from the bark of a mature rubber tree. The composition of latex consists of 40% of rubber material and 55% of water. The mattresses, toppers, and pillows made from this composition are comfortable to sleep on and environmentally friendly. They provide cushioned support and prevents sagging and loss of firmness and hardness.
Latex is an impressive material, but not all latex is natural. It comes in four different types.
Extracted from the rubber tree (Hevea Brasilienis), the natural latex overpowers synthetic latex in every way. Its natural composition makes it bouncy, comfortable, supportive, and eco-friendly. The mattresses and toppers made from natural latex will last longer and have enhanced breathability, keeping you cool and well-ventilated. They will also have a natural odour, similar to wood and may contain imperfections look-wise.
On the other hand, synthetic latex is less bouncy and will tear off easily. It is smooth and light in weight. You may find it uncomfortable to sleep on these mattresses as it doesn’t allow proper airflow and may require flipping every few months. Furthermore, they are unsafe and unpleasant due to the presence of harmful compounds and toxic off-gassing.
Investing in 100% natural latex offers ample benefits.
A natural latex mattress and topper is comfortable and delivers ultimate comfort. When you first lie down, you will slightly sink in it, but it will provide exceptional support to your body, keep you comfortable, and alleviate pain, so you wake up feeling refreshed.
Natural latex is hypoallergenic and offers resistance to mould, dust mites and bacteria, keeping your comfy space free from allergens. Hence, it makes an ideal choice for those suffering from year-round allergies. Furthermore, it does not release any harmful odours, ensuring you get a pleasant and safe night’s sleep.
The natural latex material is highly durable. These mattresses and toppers last longer than other types before needing a replacement. So, enjoy years of a sound sleep with 100% natural latex.
Motion transfer is a common problem among people who share beds, and it is quite annoying, especially for those who are light sleepers. Natural latex does not transmit movement easily, which means no more sleep disturbances, only deep sleep.
The main ingredient in the latex foam is the milky white sap from the rubber trees, extracted through a process called ‘tapping’. It is a sustainable product as it is derived without harming the trees. Also, rubber trees are known for their rapid growth and long lifespan. Not least, every component of 100% natural latex is recyclable. All of these reasons make latex foam a sustainable and eco-friendly choice.
There are so many more good reasons to upgrade to natural latex products… If you are ready to make a healthy choice for your sleep, we have you covered.
We provide 100% natural latex mattress toppers and pillows that suit your unique needs and preferences. ]]>You might be thinking, why would I need a king size? But the benefits might be better than you think! If you’re replacing your bed, consider taking the leap to king beds and better sleep quality.
In Australia, a king single is usually 107cm x 203cm and a regular king is 183cm x 203cm. If you live with a partner, spouse or family, a king bed is not just great for you – a quality king bed is an investment in your future, and your health. So what are the benefits of going bigger?
The most obvious difference is the amount of space you have, not just to sleep but to do all sorts of things – watch TV in bed, have family cuddle time with the kids and pets, spread out your blankets for a bedroom picnic, whatever creative activities you like to do in the bedroom. If you have underbed storage, you have more storage space too!
With the additional space comes additional wiggle room for couples who appreciate their own space. No more accidentally crashing into your spouse in the middle of the night; this is the perfect solution for couples who toss and turn together.
It turns out space helps solve a lot of sleeping issues. You breathe better, you have more room to get comfortable, and you’re not longer fighting to stay off the edge. But having more room is not the only benefit for restless sleepers. Many king mattresses on the market are designed to relive pressure points across your body, making it easier to fully relax no matter what position you’re in.
Thanks to its popularity, you can find a king size bed in almost any style to suit not only your sleeping needs, but your décor too. Find a bed frame to suit every need – and take your mattress with you if you change your style.
Giselle bedding has everything you need to find your perfect king size mattress. With our wide variety of materials, toppers, blankets and more, you’ll have a bed fit for royalty in no time, especially with our partnered couriers delivering Australia wide. Shop today!
]]>Making space to sleep is not always easy, especially if you live in a small space or simply need a temporary bed quickly. It’s a delicate balance between cost and comfort – the cheaper and more flexible the mattress, the less comfortable. The more comfortable the mattress, the less versatile and affordable. Until folding mattresses, that is.
Folding mattresses are built for portability. Usually made from high-quality foam, these mattresses come in two types: folding and rolling. Folding mattresses have distinct sections that fold together neatly to be stored in a cupboard after use, while rolling mattresses come in a single piece and are rolled after use, such as tatamis and futons.
Using a foldable mattress has a multitude of benefits:
Laying a mattress on the floor is easy and hassle-free, but there are some things you should consider before totally rolling out the red futon.
Make sure the area is clean! Vacuum and mop the floor before lying down so that your mattress is less likely to collect dust, dirt, and insects. Similarly, you might want to vacuum your mattress before you put it away. If it doesn’t already come with one, invest in a washable, removable cover.
If you’re laying on the floor more permanently, air out your mattress regularly by hanging it outside or over a railing. This will prevent build-up of mould, mildew and dust mites. If you can’t do that, you’re better off pairing with a foldable bed frame.
At Giselle we stock several folding mattresses and sofa beds so you can get the benefits of a good night’s sleep without the hassle of a full-sized bed. With comfortable, breathable fabric, removable covers, high-density foam and a variety f uses, our folding mattresses are perfect for adults and kids alike. Find us online at any of our partnered stores and buy yours today! You never know when you might need it…
]]>Sleep is one of the best things we can do for our bodies, so making sure you have the ideal place to rest your head is important. Our pillows are the cornerstone of the bed, so we tend to spend a lot of time and money finding the perfect one. It can be very jarring, then, to be told that you must replace them every one to two years.
There are a multitude of reasons why experts recommend replacing your pillow so often:
Your pillow absorbs sweat, dead skin cells, saliva and other bodily fluids during the night, making it a breeding ground for bacteria, dust mites and mould. If you have allergies, this can be a real problem.
The older a pillow is, the less supportive it becomes. If you have neck or back problems, an old pillow can at best stop easing your pain overnight, at worse aggravate existing injuries.
While washing pillows is also an option, the truth is that there’s only so much the washing machine can pick up. On top of that, some pillows can’t be machine washed, so you’re left relying on dry cleaning or hand washing.
Thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to extend the life of your pillow before you have to replace them.
Even though you’re not going to catch everything, a cold/warm machine wash every four months or so will help immensely. Check your pillow’s tag for care instructions – memory foam and latex usually must be handwashed, while down may need dry cleaning.
A pillow protector adds an extra layer between your face and the inner pillow. If you’re using one, you can put off cleaning the pillow for a little while, though you should be cleaning your pillowcases along with your sheets – once a week.
Depending on how you’re sleeping – are you too warm, do you have neck issues, are you unsure about the firmness – you might have a handful of different pillows to serve different purposes. You may also want to physically rotate your regular pillow; whether you like to switch to the cool side or not, rotating the pillow will hopefully help even out the filling and preventing it from going lumpy.
Always dry your hair before bed, and store away from windows as they may collect condensation.
